Toronto celebrates Newcomer Day next week

It’s Newcomer Day in Toronto next week.

Taking place on Monday, May 15, the City of Toronto hosts the annual celebration at City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square where “Mayor John Tory will welcome newcomers to Toronto and celebrate their contributions.”

The formal program includes the Proclamation of Newcomer Day by Mayor Tory, official remarks, and a community citizenship ceremony held in partnership with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and the Institute for Canadian Citizenship.

Additionally, more than 50 community agencies and City divisions will participate in the free event that also boasts live musical performances, a newcomer artist marketplace, an information fair, tours of City Hall, speakers’ corner, roaming storytellers, and more.
