For years, MEC has been a mainstay on King West in Toronto.
But now the BC born company MEC – formerly Mountain Equipment Co-op has debuted an enormous outlet in North York (at Bessarion Subway Station).
The sawdust has hardly settled in the 34,000-square-foot store, but it’ll be open to the public as of Saturday, November 26.
For the unacquainted, it’s $5 to get into the
club co-op which entitles members to a lifetime of purchasing really top notch gear for whenever you’re; travelling, cycling, running, camping, hiking, climbing, doing yoga, paddlesports, snow sports, or just generally living an active life.
The astounding assortment of clothing includes everything from athletic wear to insulating layers that’ll help city dwellers stay warm without the puffy padding that most winter wear adds.
Anyone in the market for a winter coat should check this place out. The practical selection offers a welcome range of styles; warm bubblers that pack down into a pouch, hardcore parkas, pull-overs, wind-breakers, ski jackets, and snow pants.
The array of footwear and gear is equally expansive, meanwhile, in-store services include a ski-tech and bike-repair shop, bike- and pack-fitting stations, and an equipment rental program (launching in 2017).
The store aims to be a hub for local outdoor clubs and environmental organizations by offering use of a community meeting room free of charge. Plus, expect more than a dozen events planned for 2017, including the MEC Race, Century Ride series, MEC Snowfest, Paddlefest and Bikefest.
MEC’s downtown Toronto flagship store is slated to relocate to the corner of Queen and Soho 2018, offering a more accessible downtown location.
Address: 784 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto
