Ladies coding classes in Toronto for National Learn to Code Day this weekend

Ladies, it’s time to get coding.

And if you don’t know how, there’s a new way to learn coming to Toronto for National Learn to Code Day this Saturday.

National non-profit Ladies Learning Code is holding three all-day, absolute beginners’ workshops across Toronto for women wannabe coders.

The sessions, set up in partnership with Shopify, will teach women how to create their own interactive stories, quizzes and games with HTML/CSS code.

The classes will take place at McKinsey & Company on Charles Street West, Shopify
on Spadina Avenue, and TELUS on York Street.

“Help us make history!” said Melissa Sariffodeen, Ladies Learning Code’s CEO, in a release.

“Join us in this national movement to empower and equip women with important technical skills to navigate our increasingly digital world.”

According to Ladies Learning Code, all you need to know is how to open up a web browser and do something online, like checking your email.

Women coding across Canada

The Toronto training sessions are just three of more than 25 workshops being held across Canada for National Learn to Code Day on September 24.

More than 1,000 women are expected to take part, with more than 350 volunteer expert developers serving as mentors at each workshop across Canada.

“Computer programming is today’s superpower and we should all have equal access to it,” said Tobi Lütke, Shopify founder and CEO.

Ladies Learning Code is a non-profit aimed at giving women, men and young people the chance to learn beginner technical skills in a social and collaborative way.

Since its inception in 2011, Ladies Learning Code has held over 900 workshops and events and reached over 45,000 learners across the country.

Registration for all three sessions is open now by donation and includes lunch. You will need to bring your own laptop, power cord, and mouse if you like one.
