Justin Trudeau’s kayak trip over the weekend at Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, just off the east coast of Vancouver Island, took an unexpected turn when a newlywed couple spotted the Prime Minister from afar and sped towards him on their inflatable boat.

Michelle Gruetzner – wearing a white wedding dress – and her husband Heiner greeted Trudeau and his wife Sophie, who were kayaking to a meeting with local indigenous leaders.

The Prime Minister gave the bride two kisses on the cheek, making for an incredible addition to the couple’s wedding photo album as the entire encounter was captured by Trudeau’s official photographer Adam Scotti.

Earlier on, Trudeau accidentally fell into the water while trying to get into a kayak near the shoreline in shallow waters.

Of course, this is not the first time the Trudeau has encountered newly weds while spending time on Vancouver Island.

Almost exactly one year ago, he was accidentally photographed shirtless, showing off his summer beach bod, in the background of a Tofino wedding photo shoot. Trudeau was surfing and had his wetsuit unzipped halfway.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Trudeau remains in BC today for “personal” reasons.
