According to a press release from the CNE, “The butter sculptures are a collaborative work-in-progress by artists David Salazar, Olenka Kleban, Laird Henderson and Bailey Henderson. CNE guests can observe the artists at work during all 18-days of the Fair, as they sculpt away in a giant glass refrigerator located in Heritage Court (Enercare Centre) daily.”

Butter sculpting at the Canadian National Exhibition dates back to the 1950s and uses 2,700 pounds of butter annually.

This year, the butter sculpture exhibition is titled “Wild in The 6,” and in addition to the life-sized Trudeau, features Toronto icons like the IKEA monkey and the High Park capybaras.

See them while you can because once the Ex concludes on September 4th, these sculptures are toast–literally, the butter gets sustainably composted after the fair.
