The 7 best hotels (and cities) to spot Drake

Oct 25 2016, 1:22 am

Drake, our beloved Canadian rapper, is turning the big 3-0 today, October 24th – giving name to his iconic label, OVO (October’s Very Own).

Though @champagnepapi is entering his 30s with a broken ankle and a broken heart (farewell, Riri), there’s no doubt he’ll “turn his birthday into a lifestyle” – he says it himself.

A big part of Drizzy’s routine is travelling, which means – of course – luxury hotels. So with the help of Booking.com, the world’s largest online accommodation provider, we want you to live like Drake in honour of his birthday and experience the best hotel stays he’s ever had (get it?).

These 7 accommodations are his go-tos when it comes to his favourite cities – from the 6ix to Houstatlantavegas:

Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

Let’s start off with Drake’s hometown, a city he helped put on the map. Considering he references Toronto in the majority of his songs and featured the CN Tower on his latest album cover, Drake is the ultimate 6 God. Though the Toronto Raptors ambassador grew up in Forest Hill, Drake enjoys spending time at the recently renovated Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville. Whether enjoying the hotel’s trendy French restaurant Café Boulud or the 30,000 square foot spa, you’re sure to spot the rapper and his crew “out front of the Four Seasons looking like a damn football team.”

Hotel Granduca Houston

After meeting his mentor Lil Wayne in H-town, Drake often references this Texan city as the birthplace of his career. This explains why he not only mentions Houston in many of his songs, but why he recently opened up both an OVO pop-up store and a nightclub called The Ballet here. When he’s not “blowin’ money at the Galleria”, the rapper can be found lounging by the outdoor pool at the nearby Hotel Granduca. Reminiscent of an Italian villa, the hotel creates a homey feel with Italian accents, perfect for Drake and his entourage. With lavish suites featuring small sitting areas, full kitchens, walk-in closets and Acqua di Parma toiletries, Drake will feel no stress travelling from “281 to [his] city.”

The Miami Beach EDITION

Recently spotted at this boutique beachfront hotel, it seems as if Drake likes to visit Miami for a good time. The hotel, featuring an on-site ice skating rink, bowling alley, two outdoor pools and a nightclub, is the ultimate destination to entertain fellow celebs, friends and business people alike. The hotel’s Bungalow Penthouse, a bi-level suite, is most likely a must for the rapper, featuring a private elevator, wrap-around balcony with oceans views and a private rooftop lap pool. Drake is clearly a fan of the 305 and those who live there, wanting to “bring in some girls from Miami to heat up the city.” He even filmed his bar mitzvah scene for the “HYFR” music video at a Miami synagogue.

Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta

After partying with Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz at Atlanta’s Prive nightclub this past summer, we wouldn’t be shocked if Drake ended his night at the Mandarin Oriental. “Born in Toronto, but sometimes [he] feels like Atlanta adopted us,” Drizzy is clearly fond of the city and his Atlanta fans. Located in the city’s most favoured area, the Mandarin’s striking appearance infuses contemporary luxury with southern charm – giving Drake a true Georgian experience. At 2,340 square feet, the Mandarin Suite not only has 11-foot ceilings and two spacious balconies, but also includes complimentary butler and car services (though we’re sure Drake already has these services in tow). The suite’s large dressing room is essential – after all, Drake needs space to choose from his range of turtleneck sweaters before hitting the town.

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas

With the recent announcement that he’ll be hosting a New Year’s Eve Party this year at Hakkasan Nightclub located at the MGM Grand, it’s clear Drake loves to pop champagne and celebrate special events in Vegas. In addition to the range of penthouse suites and skylofts (up to 6,000 square feet) for Drake to choose from, there are also 13 dining options, four pools, a spa and barbershop – so Drake can get a fresh cut before his show. As one of hip hop’s top earners, Las Vegas and the extravagant MGM Grand will definitely make him forget that he started from Forest Hill the bottom.

W Hotel New York

Let’s just say Drake comes to NYC for more than simply his favourite restaurant, Nobu. After performing at Madison Square Garden and hitting up trendy nightspots like 1 Oak, our favourite rapper needs his beauty sleep. This is why he frequents the W Hotel in midtown Manhattan – like he says, “He’s at the W but [he] can’t meet you in the lobby.” This hotel brand is a go-to for Drake when travelling because of its intimate vibe, indulgent services and central location. The best part? If he misses the Canadian outdoors, he can opt for the Glamping Suite, featuring a 12-foot bedecked yurt, glowing lanterns, rattan hanging chairs and a fire pit.

How could we create this list without naming the hotel that shares the same name with this famous rapper? Though there’s no direct association between Drake and the hotel itself, we know he’s made a visit or two in tribute. Located in the trendy West Queen West area (not too far from Drake’s restaurant, Fring’s), the Drake Hotel oozes style with a combination of art, nightlife, delicious cuisine and unique guest rooms. This boutique designer hotel is perfect for an artist such as Drake – whether he’s writing lyrics or enjoying a cocktail at the Drake’s Underground Bar. If Drake hasn’t stayed here yet, he should – it’s the perfect sanctuary to escape paparazzi.
