There’s always going to be that one insensitively-costumed idiot at the party, but there may be a few more if you’re celebrating Halloween in Alberta.

According to a poll from Insight West, Albertans are the most likely to be okay with costumes that alter a person’s skin colour, or refer to a different culture.

The poll was administered to 1,001 Canadian adults between October 18 and October 22 and asked Halloween related questions, such as what people are afraid of, how they plan on celebrating Halloween, and their opinion on insensitive Halloween costumes.

According to the poll, 44% of Albertans who answered said that it is probably or definitely appropriate for a costume to change the colour of a child’s skin, and that percentage jumped to 47% when asked the same thing about adult costumes.

In comparison, only 26% of British Columbians who responded answered the same of child’s costumes, and 29% for adults.

It’s not all bad for Albertan’s though, as the poll found the province to be the best place for trick-or-treaters, with 72% of respondents saying that they plan on handing out candy this Halloween.

And the three things that Albertan’s were most likely to be afraid of? Terrorism, nuclear war, and snakes.

In that order.
