The classic Google homepage that has been around since 1996 is getting a major makeover.

On July 19, Google announced that it is adding a new feed experience in the Google app, which curates content that personally matters to users.

“We’ve added our machine learning algorithms to better anticipate what’s interesting and important to you,” said Google in a release.

“And now, your feed will not only be based on your interactions with Google, but also factor in what’s trending in your area and around the world. The more you use Google, the better your feed will be.”

The new feed is meant to grow and evolve with users. This means that over time, the feed will reflect interest levels for various topics that you search. Google has also added a favourites option to help you keep up with topics that you care about.

Now, when you search a topic you can simply press the “Follow” button to start getting updates about those topics.

Fight against fake news

Google will also be taking the steps to fight against fake news by providing users with information with diverse perspectives.

When you search a story, multiple viewpoints from a variety of sources and other related information and articles will appear.

“And when available, you’ll be able to fact check and see other relevant information to help get a more holistic understanding about the topics in your feed,” said Google.

More of the stuff you care about

With these updates, Google says it will be easier for users to stay in the know about the topics that matter to them.

“You’ll spend less time and energy trying to keep up with your interests and more time enjoying and cultivating them,” said the company.

The new feed experience is available in the Google app for Android (including the Pixel Launcher) and iOS, launching today in the U.S. and rolling out internationally in the next couple of weeks.
