Frank Turner's 2018 tour is coming to Toronto this September

Frank Turner will be making a stop in Toronto on a 2018 tour that will span the whole world.

The 36-year-old singer/songwriter has been at work on a new album, which he plans on releasing in May of this year, and has put together a tour that will see him playing from Toronto to New Zealand.

The album, Be More Kind, is influenced by both personal and political ideas, according to a release. Written in 2016, a time that Turner describes as “when the world decided to go collectively nuts,” Be More Kind caries with it the idea of empathy for the enemy.

“You should at least be able to inhabit the mental universe of the people you disagree with,” Turner said in the release.

“If you can’t do that, then how do you communicate with people other than through force of arms, which is something we all agree is a bad idea.”

The first track off of Be More Kind is named “1933,” and is inspired by the anger Turner felt after reading an article that linked the alt-right with punk rock.

The album takes its name from Clive James’ poem “Leçons Des Ténèbres,” which has the line: “I should have been more kind. It is my fate. To find this out, but find it out too late.”

Turner said that he felt devastated when he read the line, and that the poem had a heavy influence on the album.

The Be More Kind Tour will see Turner in Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre on September 19, and tickets are available as of this Friday.
