Harbourfront Centre Presents the Inaugural BRAVE: The Festival of Risk and Failure

Harbourfront Centre is excited to present BRAVE: The Festival of Risk and Failure, a fresh and daring new festival that will push the boundaries of what it means to be brave. The Festival will include some of the world’s most courageous and outlandish artists, thinkers, writers and musicians who are brave enough to disrupt the status quo. BRAVE encompasses 18 days of free and ticketed programming and will include headliners such as the filmmaker of cult classics Hairspray and Cry-Baby, John Waters (July 12); musician and motivational speaker Bif Naked (July 20); and surgeon-turned-comedian who is dubbed the “Jon Stewart of the Arab world,” Bassem Youssef (July 26).

BRAVE will also present a diverse slate of FREE concerts, movie screenings, stand-up comedy, dance, storytelling, visual arts and special events. Other courageous artists participating include comedians Cathy Jones and Gina Yashere, as well as Ali Hassan, Grammy-winning Chilean rap artist Ana Tijoux, public art interventionist, Sean Martindale, and Indigenous artist and ‘Queen of the Live Loops,’ Māmā Mihirangi.

Poet and author Ronna Bloom will create personal poems for visitors telling their own stories of bravery; families can enjoy free screenings of Academy Award-winning films such as The Breadwinner, that will open with live Afghan music; let loose at a Silent Disco; and don’t miss the Canadian debut of the Museum of Failure that celebrates the notorious marketing missteps, experiments, and failures of big corporations such as Colgate frozen lasagna!

COST: Free programming; and Ticketed programming starting at $20, available at Harbourfrontcentre.com or Box Office (416-973-4000)
