Environment Canada warns of intense lightning, hail and possible tornado in Toronto today

Sep 11 2016, 12:02 am

If you’ve been outside in Toronto today you might have noticed it looks a little different than any other day over the past week.

And that’s ’cause sh*t is about to get real.

At 12:27 pm today, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the City of Toronto that uses words like lightning, hail, and tornado.

In fact, here’s exactly what they said:

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain.

A fast moving cold front may trigger severe thunderstorms later this afternoon into this evening.

Main threats are torrential downpours and damaging winds. Intense lightning and hail are also possible.

An isolated tornado is not completely out of the question.

So ya, those outdoor plans you had? Not so much.

The good news however, is that tomorrow is supposed to be back to its sunny self, with a high of 23°C.
