This Toronto event looks at the impact of cannabis legalization on women

Nov 3 2018, 1:09 am

Ellementa, a female-focused monthly gathering that incorporates cannabis and wellness is hosting an event in Toronto next week to discuss how legalization will impact women.

“On October 17, Canada became the first major world economy to legalize adult-use marijuana. This major shift in policy leaves many questions still unanswered, especially around the long-term social, political and economic impact of cannabis in this country,” Louise Upperton, local leader of Ellementa Toronto told Daily Hive in an email.

“What we do know is that women have enormous purchasing power, and the ‘new’ cannabis consumers are women between the ages of 25 and 44. Women will play a major role in shaping attitudes around cannabis and shifting the industry to a more lifestyle-focused one.”

The event will feature guest expert Irie Selkirk, who has been an insightful cannabis educator, advocate, public speaker, and consultant for over 10 years. She was formerly the Director of Outreach for Emblem Cannabis and Tokyo Smoke and is now a freelance cannabis consultant and a co-founder of The Green Tent.

Key topics include how new cannabis laws with impact women, what ending the stigma means, and how Canadian society will change socially, culturally, and economically.

Ellementa is exclusively for females/female-identified due to the personal nature of the programs. It is a monthly event hosted by local leader Louise Upperton in Toronto.

Louise has 18 years of experience crafting authentic and engaging experiences for brands and consumers. Before working in the cannabis space, her focus was in technology, music, and sound.

Most recently, Louise worked with RISE Life Science, a publicly traded company that creates lifestyle brands that harness the power of the therapeutic effects of cannabis.
