Toronto is about to get its own all-female ridesharing platform.

DriveHER, a locally based app, is designed to provide “safe and alternative rides for women by women within the Greater Toronto Area.”

Launching on March 16, the app is the latest in local rideshare platforms. Last fall, InstaRyde debuted and the international rideshare company Lyft is also available in Toronto now.

The app is different being a “women-only rider and driver service” to hit the Toronto market, and the company has plans to expand across Canada.

“DriveHER eliminates a lot of the discomfort women may feel using existing platforms and provides drivers and passengers a sense of community unmatched by other apps,” said Aisha Addo, Founder of DriveHER, in a release.

The DriveHER app, which will be available on both Android and IOS platforms, includes a pre-scheduled rides feature.

Among its pillars are passenger safety, as well as empowerment.

“In Canada’s male-dominated taxi industry, men account for 85.1% of drivers. DriveHER is changing that by empowering women to get behind the wheel,” said the company.

DriverHER launches at noon on March 16.
