A Canadian Pacific freight train, heading towards Ontario, toppled off-track on Monday night. The train derailed in the town of Saint-Polycarpe, just 66 kilometres west of Montreal.

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada confirms that none of the 25 derailed train cars spilled any hazardous material.

Two railcars containing propane fell into a river that runs through Saint-Polycarpe and fortunately, both cars stayed intact avoiding any type of environmental spills.

The only minor leak came from one of the train-side carriages containing vegetable oil which was quickly plugged up and cleaned.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transport occurrences. Its aim is the advancement of safety among its carriers.

They reported that no injuries or evacuations stemmed from the derailment.
