11 Canada Day Toronto 2016 events and fireworks

Our beloved Canada turns 149 years young on July 1st.

Falling on a Friday this year, there is no better time to grab the family, grab the baes, and celebrate with one of these 11 Toronto events. Did we mention there would be fireworks?

Mel Lastman Square

The big 149th birthday celebration this year is at Mel Lastman Square, with a fun-filled evening of music, dance, and family activities. Of course, all of the day’s excitement ends with the fireworks show choreographed to music!

Where: Mel Lastman Square – 5100 Yonge Street
When: 5 pm to 10:30 pm
Fireworks: 10:15 pm

Canada Day at Queen’s Park

Family entertainment and Canada Day celebrations await you at the annual Queen’s Park party. Food is available for purchase, but don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottle – there will be a water station on site. Music, face painting, and rides… and did we mention a lot of food?

Where: Front Lawn at Queen’s Park
When: 10 am to 5 pm
Note: Roads around Queen’s Park are closed most of the day on Canada Day (6 am to 7 pm) but the TTC will be running.

Amesbury Park Canada Day Celebration

The 33rd Annual Amesbury Park Canada Day Celebration brings the community spirit to its July 1st festivities. From multicultural entertainment, to children’s activities, and fireworks, this is sure to end the day with a bang.

When: 10 am to 10 pm

Ashbridges Bay Park

A day on the beach is never wasted. That’s why Ashbridges Bay Park is an awesome way to spend Canada Day, whether it is chilling on the beach or stalling on the boardwalk. And top off the outdoor awesomeness with a side of fireworks.

Centennial Park/Toronto Ribfest

A day filled with Ribs, live music, magic shows, and event a citizenship ceremony, the Toronto Ribfest Canada Day festivities has it all. Events are family friendly, and the food is delicious. So don’t forget your appetite.

When: Events begin at 11:30 am

Canada Day at Downsview Park

If you’re in the city’s north end, head down to Downsview Park for the annual fireworks display. If you’re not in the north end, the trek is worth it.

Canada Day at Harbourfront Centre

A massive celebration is taking place on Toronto’s central waterfront for Canada’s birthday. Musical performances, activities for the kids, and the day concludes with an awesome display of dazzling fireworks on the waterfront. How romantic.

Black Creek Pioneer Village

Get historical while celebrating Canada’s birthday! From a citizenship ceremony to horse-drawn wagon rides, the Black Creek Pioneer Village is a Canada Day unlike any other. Fun for everyone!

When: 11 am to 5pm

Canada’s Wonderland

If there’s a day to visit Canada’s Wonderland, Canada Day would be it! Awesome rides and family fun all day, followed by an epic fireworks display. And their fireworks are accompanied by an original soundtrack – don’t miss it.

Multicultural Canada Day

Head down to Yonge-Dundas Square and be part of the “Living Flag.” Hosted by the Community Folk Art Council of Toronto, the Multicultural Canada Day celebrates with live performances from around the world, crafts and food. Culture at its finest.

When: Noon to 9 pm

Canada Day with Parks Canada

Celebrate Canada Day among the cutest animals in the city! Canada Day at the Toronto Zoo is all about family fun, and make sure to take part in their Parks Canada Explorers Booklet challenge to receive a special souvenir.
