For the fourth year in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays will have a new starting pitcher on Opening Day.
J.A. Happ gets the nod this year, as manager John Gibbins revealed the team’s starting rotation on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old gets the first start against the New York Yankees on Thursday at Rogers Centre, followed by Aaron Sanchez, Marco Estrada, and Marcus Stroman. Newcomer Jaime Garcia is scheduled to start the first game of the next series against the Chicago White Sox.

Happ follows in the footsteps of Estrada (2017), Stroman (2016), and Drew Hutchinson (2015) as Opening Day starters for Toronto. Stroman would have likely been the Opening Day starter again this year, were it not for the fact that he’s recovering from a shoulder injury.
The Jays will need a bounce-back season from their starting pitchers in 2018 if they hope to return to the postseason.
