Toronto Blue Jays to retire Roy Halladay's number on opening day

In honour of former pitcher Roy (Doc) Halladay, the Toronto Blue Jays will retire the late player’s No. 32 jersey on opening day.

Halladay, 40, passed away in November after the plane he was flying crashed near Holiday, Florida (near Tampa). He was the only person on board.

Halladay’s jersey will be retired on Opening Day when the Jays host the New York Yankees on March 29.

The Jays will continue to honour Halladay’s legacy by wearing a No. 32 patch on the club’s uniforms for the entire 2018 season.

Halladay was a first round draft pick by the Blue Jays in 1995 and made his big league debut three years later. He played parts of 12 seasons in Toronto before moving on to play with the Philadelphia Phillies where he finished off the last four years of his career.
