A disastrous start just got worse.

After starting the season 2-10, easily the worst record in Major League Baseball, the injury bug has bit the Toronto Blue Jays.

And it’s bit hard.

Already without pitchers JA Happ (elbow), Aaron Sanchez (blister), and JP Howell (shoulder), the Jays will now be without their best player, Josh Donaldson, because of a calf injury.

Baseball insider Ken Rosenthal has reported that Donaldson will miss 2-4 weeks with a calf injury.

The Blue Jays can ill-afford to miss the 2015 MVP, given how starved the team already is for offence. Toronto ranks last in the American League in runs and RBIs, as well as second-last in hits, home runs, and batting average.

While Happ’s injury is not believed to be serious, and Sanchez could return later this month, there’s a limit to how far the Jays can fall before they dig too big a hole to get out of.

Of more grave concern is the tough question: have the Blue Jays been unlucky or are they just bad?

If it’s the latter, many more uncomfortable questions will need to be asked for the oldest team in MLB.

The Blue Jays will try to get things back on the rails as they begin a three-game home-stand against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
