Barack Obama is in Toronto to give a speech today

Sep 29 2017, 9:40 pm

Forget National Coffee Day, Barack Obama is in Toronto right now.

The former US president will be at a lunchtime event at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre that will be hosted by Canada 2020, an Ottawa based think-tank.

“President Barack Obama in Toronto will be the biggest political event of the year, bar none. Canada 2020 has always focused on hosting inspiring leaders and conversations, and President Obama is one of the most inspirational political figures of our time,” said Bruce Heyman, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada and newly appointed special adviser to Canada 2020, about the event. “For many, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and hear President Obama live. Canada 2020 is thrilled to help spread his message of civic engagement, community leadership and tolerance.”

Obama was just in Montreal this past June, where he addressed climate change and nationalism in front of a sold out crowd.

Thousands are expected to attend today’s event in Toronto as President Obama is set to deliver remarks, followed by an on-stage discussion on a wide-range of topics.

But if you can’t make it (aka the majority of us), keep an eye out on social media. You never know where the ex-prez will end up in our city.
