Burgers: You know them, you love them. But we live in the future, and now buying a simple burger can make a real impact in the world.

In fact, it’s been doing so for many years with A&W’s Burgers to Beat MS. This year marks the 10th annual campaign which kicked off on July 9 and runs right through to August 16.

Since its inception, Burgers to Beat MS has generated over $11 million dollars for the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society of Canada. This is hugely important because Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world, with approximately 1 in 385 Canadians living with MS, according to the MS Society.

A complex and unpredictable disease, MS affects the central nervous system, and when someone is diagnosed with the illness, their life changes in an instant. It’s the most common neurological disease among young adults (three times as likely to strike women), and on average, 11 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day.

There’s currently no cure for MS, and A&W is working to help researchers find one with Burgers to Beat MS.

If you visit any A&W location on Thursday, August 16 and purchase a Teen Burger, $2 of the money you spend will be donated to the MS Society of Canada. This includes funding research to develop treatments to improve quality of life and ultimately find a cure, providing up to date information and support, and advocating for better access and employment security.

So, if you love a good burger, make sure you get yourself down to A&W on August 16 to do greater good as you feast.
