8 fun road trips within an hour of Toronto

It is never too early to plan your next road trip! Escape the bustle of city life by heading on a fun road trip outside of the city.

Near Toronto there plenty of interesting spots to visit from castles, vineyards, and waterfalls that make a perfect day trip. Here are eight places you can visit within an hour of Toronto.

See the Devil’s Punchbowl

Go for a hike and discover the two waterfalls at the Devil’s Punchbowl Conservation Area. The larger of the two falls is a 33-meter waterfall. Around the waterfalls is the Punchbowl which was formed at last ice age. Within the layered rocks of the Punchbowl, you can find a variety of different coloured stones. The hiking trail within the conservation has a not-to-be-missed lookout point that gives a view of Hamilton Harbor.

Goat yoga has been all over the news lately, and at Haute Goat, you can sign up for a goat yoga class for $30.00. Switch things up and try this fun version of yoga done alongside friendly goats. Or if you prefer you can join for Haute Goat Shmurgle where you can play and hug the cute Nigerian dwarf goats.

Visit a castle

Spend the afternoon touring the stately Dundurn Castle, a neoclassical mansion built in 1830. Visiting the grand castle will make you feel as though you are in Europe due to the architecture, and is a great photo spot. After learning about the history of the 40 room castle, wander over to the beautiful Kitchen Garden and The Hamilton Military Museum onsite.

Hike to Dundas Peak

Dundas Peak is one of the most beautiful hiking trails around Toronto. The hiking trail leads through a forest and passes two waterfalls Tew Falls, and Webster’s Falls. Despite being moderately challenging, the 3.9 km trail is highly worth it to see the waterfalls and the view of Hamilton from the lookout point at the peak.

Tour the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

Visit the stunning BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir which is a traditional Hindu place of worship with extraordinary architecture. The mandir is the largest of its kind in Canada, built according to ancient Hindu scriptures.

Stroll through the lavender fields

Spend a relaxing day walking through the fields of lavender at Terre Bleu Lavender Farm. At the farm make sure to take a guided tour, see the outdoor art, and visit the apiary to learn more about making honey.

Go wine tasting in Beamsville

Discover some outstanding locally made wine in Beamsville such as Thiry Bench, Fielding Estate, and Angel’s Gate. As the wineries are close to each other, you can easily go wine tasting at several vineyards in one day.
