We’ve done the hard work for you and found the perfect spot to capture them, too: The Arctic Hideaway in Arctic Norway. Picture a handful of angular, architecturally stunning timber cabins floating on the side of a hill on a remote Norwegian Island. Throw in some huge windows, textured wood and plenty of sheepskins scattered here and there, all framed with other-worldly views out to the ocean and islands. Ready to book your flight yet?!

Every year from September, the nights out here get longer, and the Northern Lights get brighter, and this archipelago is THE place to go to see them without having to jostle with crowds, as only a handful of locals live there. Plus, there’s next to no light pollution so you’re set for a firecracker of a show.

Best of all, the retreat only sleeps 10, and stays are exclusive, so you’ll never have to share with people you don’t know. Book the whole place out for a romantic weekend with your partner, or bring a bunch of friends (we’re friends, right?) and make a long weekend of it.

Just make sure you have plenty of space on your phone to take pics of the island as you explore. You’ll be able to spot wooden fishing boats moored up against rickety little piers, and colourful timber houses perched on the waterfront as if they’re about to topple in. You might even be lucky enough to see an orca, minke whale, otter or sea eagle.

Our top tip: For the best views, make sure you bag yourself the tower room. This one-roomed house-shaped cabin sits on a stilt, jutting out of the ground above the rest of the cabins, and one wall is entirely made out of glass, so there’s no chance you’ll miss the Northern Lights’ show when it happens.

In Norwegian, the Arctic Hideaway is called Fordypningsrommet. No, we don’t know how to pronounce it either. When you get there, try saying it three times in a row and let us know how you get on. Better still, try that after you’ve had a few drinks in the sauna, and make sure you send us a video.

Yes, you read correctly, this place also has its own woodfire sauna, right on the waterfront, so you can jump right in when the heat gets too much. GOALS, right?

As if that wasn’t enough, you can book your own private chef from a local fine-dining restaurant called NYT to cook for you: freshly-caught scallops and crab, reindeer steaks or hearty soups, all paired with wines to die for.

We don’t know about you, but we are all in.
