Week 16 NFL Picks: Take the Packers on frozen tundra

Dec 22 2016, 12:47 pm

It was a big week for us last week, going 11-4, giving us five straight winning weeks. We’re into late December, meaning it’s crunch time in the NFL with playoff spots on the line.

Fans United

Here are this week’s NFL picks:

5 picks of the week

1. Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers -7

Our Pick: Packers -7

The Packers had a big Week 15, beating division rival Chicago while both the Lions and Vikings lost. It got them an inch closer to the postseason but they still need to win out to get in. Aaron Rodgers is hobbled by multiple injuries but is still proving to be one of the best QBs in the game. He seems determined to get this Packers squad to the playoffs after starting the season 5-6.

The Vikings welcomed back Adrian Peterson but it didn’t help their offence one bit. They got dominated at home by the Colts and now need to win out and get some help to make the playoffs. It’s a tough game for them in the frozen tundra and we don’t expect their offence to be able to keep up with Rodgers.

Packers win this game and put themselves in a position to win the division in week 17.

2. Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars +4.5

Our Pick: Titans -4.5

The Gus Bradley era is finally over in Jacksonville after yet another epic collapse by the Jaguars in Houston. Sitting at 2-12, this Jaguars team looks checked out and content to just go through the motions for the last two games of the season.

The Titans, on the other hand, are playing for the division title after a huge win in Kansas City last week. The offence has been a bright spot for the Titans and they will continue to move the ball against the Jaguars.

Playing for their lives, we expect the Titans to come out focused, as losing to the Jags will essentially put them out of contention for a playoff spot.

3. San Francisco 49ers @ Los Angeles Rams -4

Our Pick: 49ers +4

This should be the worst game of the weekend as the 49ers are playing for draft position and the Rams are trying to just finish off what was an extremely disappointing season. It looks like Jared Goff will be out with a concussion, and if so, Sean Mannion will make his first NFL start. We love to bet against QBs in their first game and nothing changes here.

The 49ers are a complete disaster and have too many injuries to count. Their offence somehow is still putting up nearly 19 points a game, which isn’t enough to win many games in the NFL, but could be enough against a first time starter.

This is probably not a game we will be watching this weekend, but is one that we think the 49ers can keep close.

4. Indianapolis Colts @ Oakland Raiders -3.5

Our Pick: Colts +3.5

The Colts visit the Raiders in what should be one of the more entertaining games of the weekend. The Colts are coming off a dominating performance against the Vikings which kept their postseason hopes alive. Andrew Luck is playing extremely well and will be able to put up points against the Raiders.

The Raiders have locked up playoff spot but are now looking to secure a first round bye. They’re a very talented team but every game seems to come down to the last possession for them. We hope that trend continues and the Colts are able to keep this game close, or even win outright.

5. Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys -7

Our Pick: Cowboys -7

The Cowboys are 12-2, but somehow haven’t locked up the division yet, since the Giants are 10-4 and are responsible for both of the Cowboys’ losses this year. A win here and the Cowboys lock up home field advantage, which would allow them to rest some players in Week 17 if they so choose.

The Lions were once sitting in the 2nd spot, but a loss last week bumped them down and now their fans are worried as they have two more tough games to end the season. Although Matt Stafford didn’t look too bothered by the finger injury last week, he’s still not 100% and they’re coming off a poor offensive performance against the Giants.

Dak Prescott is coming off an extremely efficient performance and the Cowboys will once again be able to dominate the line of scrimmage. After not covering 4 straight games, we believe the Cowboys will snap that streak and beat the Lions by double digits.
