Waiting in line at check-out could soon be a thing of the past.

According to CBC, starting yesterday, Monday, October 23, Walmart has started rolling out its new Scan & Go app and electronic payment processing at more than 20 stores in Canada.

Scan & Go has already been available south of the border at Sam’s Clubs for over a year but officially launched last month in Canada at the opening of Walmart’s new Montérégie Supercentre in Longueuil.

According to a press release, the new self-pay service “will allow customers to pick up a portable barcode scanner as soon as they enter the store. Customers can then start shopping while scanning the items they wish to purchase as they go along. Their itemized receipt will instantly be displayed on the portable scanner, allowing them to keep track of their budget. Once at the checkout, all the customers need to do is proceed with the payment.”
