Montreal is the 13th best city in the world to drive in, according to a new traffic study conducted by German company Kfzteile24.

It may seem hard to believe with the city’ rush hour traffic jams but according to Kfzteile24’s data, Montreal’s driving conditions rank as some of the best in the world.

The study examined several factors including:

    • Congestion levels
    • Public transport options
    •  Average cost of parking
    • Cost of fuel
    • Average speeds
    • Levels of air pollution
    • Accidents and fatalities
    • Road quality and the frequency/perception of road rage

It’s important to note that any traffic delays or congestion caused by temporary construction work were not taken into account for this study, which could explain why Montreal ranked so well.

Once all factors were researched for 100 cities, a final score was calculated for each.

Montreal was one of four Canadian cities to make Kfzteile24’s list. Vancouver placed 48th, Toronto came in 14th and Calgary ranked 10th.

Kolkata, India, was listed as the worst city to drive in as Kfzteile24’s data found that the city had a 69% congestion level.

The 10 best cities in the world to drive in according to Kfzteile24 are:

  1. Dusseldorf, Germany
  2. Dubai, UAE
  3. Zurich, Switzerland
  4. Tokyo, Japan
  5. Basel, Switzerland
  6. Singapore, Singapore
  7. Dortmund, Germany
  8. Vienna, Austria
  9. Munich, Germany
  10. Calgary, Canada
