A massive $10 theatre festival begins in Montreal next week
The St-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival, also known as Fringe Fest, returns on May 28 for three spectacularly entertaining weeks.
The festival has been running locally since 1990 and hosts a variety of shows include fringe theatre, comedy, dance, music, and drag performances.
The festival is acclaimed by local critics and audience members and hosts more than 60,000 patrons every summer as well as 500 performers.
Part of the Fringe Fest’s allure is the way it chooses its shows. Artists are on a first-come-first-serve basis. Once chosen, the artists receive 100% of the ticket sales and are completely uncensored by the venue they’re performing at. The artist themselves, or their group, is responsible for what they perform and how they present it.
At the end of the festival, awards go to the best of the festival, as voted by a jury.

The festival takes place in the Plateau and the Mile-End, with performances scattered throughout various different theatres and stages.
Be sure to check out Fringe For All which kicks off the festival on Monday, May 28. Each act has two minutes on stage to pitch and tease their show in order to garner buzz. Fringe For All is free to attend and takes place from 7 pm – 10 pm at Club Soda.
