Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the island of Montreal as of 3:23 pm on Thursday, August 9.

Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wings, nickel-size hail and torrential downfalls of rain.

A heavy downpour can result in flash floods and water accumulation on roads.

Toronto has been hit with intense, heavy rain and flash floods and the island of Montreal could possibly be hit with a similar localized storm.

The high temperatures coupled with humidex values in the low 30s could also make way for lightning strikes.

Environment Canada urges citizens to “take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.”

The website also recommends Montrealers to monitor alerts and follow ongoing forecasts.
