Quebec officials are asking drivers to avoid the road as a powerful winter storm has touched down in parts of the province.

Quebec 511 asked drivers to delay non-emergency travel.

“In a storm, consider delaying non-emergency travel,” said the traffic authority in a tweet.

Sûreté du Québec also put out a warning notice yesterday, urging drivers to take extreme precaution when heading out on the roads today.

“The Sûreté du Québec wishes to remind motorists to exercise great caution on the road when traveling,” said the provincial police in a statement.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall and winter storm warnings for over 30 regions of the province. Some places like Quebec City and the Eastern Township are expected to see up to 25 cm by tonight. Parts of eastern Quebec could see up to 50 cm.
