Dating app offers feature for Pokémon GO addicts to meet

If you’re ashamed to admit that your ideal first date involves playing Pokémon GO, an app has invented a new feature that allows you to come out of the proverbial “Poké closet.”

Dating app Dine – which, as its name suggests, is meant for foodie daters – allows users to select a few options for ideal first dates, one of which is now “Let’s catch Pokémon,” in addition to “It’s my treat,” and “Let’s meet with friends.”

You’ll know right away whether or not your potential date will be open to catching ’em all by the presence of a little PokéBall in the top right corner of their profile.

“We noticed a lot of our users are Pokémon GO users,” Dine marketing manager Michael Tudda tells Daily Hive. “We really like Pokémon too and we thought it would be kind of funny and fun to make a new way for our users to connect on Dine.”

While not everyone is interested in a “Poké date,” says Tudda, many of their users are taking advantage of the new feature that launched just two weeks ago.

“Pokémon GO is arguably one of the best apps that came out in 2016 and maybe even a few years after,” says Tudda. “It incentivizes people to get out of their houses and it has a lot of different angles to it, so you see a lot of secondary companies moving in. I guess you could say we’re one of them.”

This app, however, isn’t the first to target single Pokémon GO players seeking love. PokéDates recently launched as the world’s first online service to allow the Pokémon obsessed to say “I choose you.”
