The new Samuel de Champlain Bridge opened to traffic on Monday morning, roughly six months behind schedule.

The $4.2 billion infrastructure is now open to Montreal-bound traffic and will be fully operational, in both directions, as of July 1.

The massive project took four years to complete, replacing the former Champlain Bridge which was built in 1962.

Videos of the new bridge, designed to last 125 years, has been captured by dash cam footage and passengers as proud Montrealers took to social media to share the historic crossing of the the 3.4-kilometre roadway which connects the island of Montreal to the South Shore.
