If you’re looking to get your mind off the cold, today’s events are probably a good place to start.

As we trek towards the weekend, here are five things to check out in Montreal today, January 17.

Igloofest Day 1: Polo & Pan and Skatebård

Cold, shmold.

Stand up to Mother Nature and tackle the city’s largest outdoor winter festival which kicks off its nine-day run tonight.

Thousands of wintery-dressed partiers will head to the Old Port tonight to beat the winter by dancing, drinking, and partying through it.

DJs Polo & Pan, Skatebård, Robert Robert and BBBlaster will be spinning beats tonight.

Yannick Fornacciari – “Heroin Days'” Photo Exhibition

WIP galleries invites guests to the opening of Yannick Fornacciari’s “Heroin Days” photo exhibition.

This autobiographical photo project of the Montrealer’s head-on, raw and sensitive approach to his descent into the hell of his opiates addiction in a self-published, black and white photo exhibit.

DJ Xarah Dion will also be on site, handling music.

Snowshoeing on Mont Royal

Strap on a pair of snowshoes (provided) and follow Les amis de la montagne’s guide along the historic mountain, all the way to the top of the snowy Mont Royal for breathtaking views of the city (and a pretty good workout to boot).

DJ Sur Glace

Thursday nights at the Natrel Skating Rink welcomes a different Montreal DJ every week who’ll provide the tunes to you skating, sliding, spinning and gliding around the city’s 2,500 square metre rink.

Today’s DJ set is Toast Dawg, who will be setting the rink on fire. Thankfully, not literally.

La Grande Roue de Montréal
