10 very last minute Halloween costume ideas

Oct 28 2017, 1:27 am

When October first rolled around, you harboured lofty notions of a show-stopping couples outfit with your S.O. or BFF this Halloween.

The middle of the month hit and you set your sights a little lower – a classic costume or a fun pun, perhaps. Then suddenly, you had just hours to spare and absolutely no idea what to wear. Boo.

But all is not (yet) lost. Just because you left it a little late doesn’t mean you can’t wow your guests this Halloween. Here are ten great costumes you can make with items you already own, a pair of scissors, and a healthy dose of eyeliner…

Mime Artist

This is the perfect outfit for introverted Halloween lovers who hate awkward small talk. All it requires is a stripy shirt, white gloves, a black hat, and access to a makeup bag. Follow a tutorial like this one here and start practising your ‘Trapped in a Cardboard Box’ now. You can thank us later (in mime form, of course).

Sean ‘Spicy’ Spicer

Former White House Press Secretary and Hollywood anti-hero Sean Spicer, is sure to be a conversation starter this Halloween. Throw on a suit and fashion Spicy’s podium out of a large box (furniture stores may have some they can give away) using this tutorial. Draw on some eye bags, ignore anyone who asks you a question, and prepare to “disagree with the facts” all night long.

Pre-Makeover Eleven from Stranger Things

Loved the Netflix show but couldn’t quite commit to the costume like every other person this Halloween? Not a problem. Opt for the pre-makeover version of Eleven with an oversized t-shirt, a bleeding nose and buzz cut – and don’t forget to draw on an ‘11’ tattoo on the inside of your arm.

Distracted Boyfriend Meme

A post shared by davincci_cold (@mic_duela) on

The biggest meme to come out of 2017, Distracted Boyfriend is an extremely low maintenance way to be topical this October 31. Ideally, this is a trio or couples costume – but if you find yourself riding solo, a couple of cards with some funny captions written on them (check out these for inspiration), worn with a philandering leer and plaid shirt should do the trick.

Bunch of Grapes

A pack of purple balloons and a healthy set of lungs is all that’s needed for this fruity costume. Wear all black underneath and decorate your head with some foliage to finish off the look. Oh, and avoid sharp objects.

Jim Halpert Halloween

One guy who always made lazy Halloween costumes seem effortless was Jim Halpert from The Office. Go as ‘Three Hole Punch Jim,’ ‘Facebook/Bookface Jim’ or ‘Dave’ – i.e. that time he simply wore an (incorrect) name tag. Accessorize with a mug of coffee and spend all evening flirting with the cute receptionist.

Pop Art

Ka-Pow! We’ve seen enough Pinterest fails to know that online tutorials don’t always turn out exactly how you expect. But if you know your way around a makeup brush, you can let your face do all the talking this Halloween.

A Pregnant Kardashian

Not one, not two, but THREE Kardashian babies will be arriving within weeks of each other in early 2018. So why not hop on this trend for Halloween? A website called Yandy is selling this outfit for $60, but you can easily DIY the look by stuffing a cushion underneath a figure-hugging dress . . . and taking 3,000 selfies.

Rosie the Riveter

Need a Halloween costume at very short notice? We Can Do It! Roll up the sleeves of a denim shirt, tie a red bandana or piece of material around your hair, paint on some winged eye liner and a popping red lip, and flex those guns.

Georgie from ‘It’

Dressing up as Pennywise – the scary AF clown from ‘It’– is a stretch for serial procrastinators this Halloween. But Georgie, aka the boy from the poster, is much more attainable. Don a yellow raincoat and hold a red helium balloon, so it floats above you. Just don’t blame us if your creepy costume has you shunned from every party.
