Montreal's annual Dragon Boat Challenge returns to the Lachine Canal next month

May 25 2018, 9:46 pm

This summer’s dragon boat challenge is a fun activity, a phenomenal workout, and supports a good cause.

AMCAL is a non-profit, community-based agency that offers services to promote and preserve healthy family relationships.

In June, they are sponsoring the 3rd annual Row, Row, Row Them Home Dragon Boat Challenge.

A dragon boat is a long, narrow boat propelled by a numerous crew used for racing. It’s traditionally a Chinese design and often features a dragon as part of its decor.

The dragon boats for this event hold a maximum of 20 people, all of whom are expected to give a $100 donation to the cause.

Teams are then set against each other in the waters of the Lachine Canal in a race to the finish line.

The event features family-friendly races and more challenging lanes for the more experienced. There will also be live music, food vendors, and a variety of water-based activities throughout the day including parasailing, kayaking, and canoeing.

All funds will be directly invested in Family Support and Assistance Programs and the Missing Children’s Network.

Participants are urged to form their own team and individuals are welcome to join previously existing teams.

Professional trainers and medics will be on sight to ensure guests a safe and leisurely experience.
