There was a spike in home renovation projects across the country last year.

While Canadians spent more than $71 billion on home improvements in 2015, TrustedPros indicates that 2016 had a forecasted growth of 1.9 per cent.

The majority of the renovation has been in the bathroom, which covered 19 per cent of all home renovations in Canada. Bathrooms were followed closely by basement renovations, which was at 15 per cent. Deck construction came in a close third at 13 per cent.

While renovation projects differed from province to province, the top results were quite similar and mostly included basement, bathroom, or deck construction.

Provincially, Alberta had a tie in its bathroom and basement renovation projects, both accounted for 18 per cent. Meanwhile in BC, basement renovations came in fourth after bathroom, deck, and tiling. Ontario’s bathroom renovation was higher than average at 19 per cent, but it is not as high as PEI’s 22 per cent.

The largest home renovation project in terms of percentage was in Saskatchewan, where basement redos came in at a whopping 38 per cent.

There must be some mint looking basements in Saskatchewan now.

Check out all the numbers in the charts below.
