How people see the world, based on Google searches (MAP)

Jun 6 2017, 2:09 am

People use Google to search for a lot of things.

And US travel company Exeter International thought it would be interesting to use those searches to get a sense of how each country in the world is currently perceived. Focusing on Google’s autosuggest function, Exeter searched  ‘Best * COUNTRY NAME’, and used the most post popular autofills to complete a map of every country in the world.

The results are, well, a bit of a mixed bag.

While Brazil earns ‘Soccer Players’ and Russia gets hit with a lot of searches for ‘Vodka’, the US and Canada both end up with answers that don’t seem entirely likely for an overall world stereotype, namely ‘Universities’ and ‘Ski Resorts’ respectively.

While we might be more used to being met with everything from hockey players to maple syrup as standard order stereotypes, it seems a lot of people are more interested in what our fresh powder has to offer.

Of course, we can only assume hope this will change as we head into the summer months and take the stage for Canada 150. But for now, take a look at where Canada, and the rest of the world, sits in Google autosuggest results.
