A special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada as freezing rain is in the forecast for Montreal tonight.

“A warm front will move across Western and Central Quebec beginning this evening through Thursday morning. Just ahead of this system, some precipitation is expected, it will begin as light snow and change quickly over to light freezing rain before changing back to intermittent rain Thursday,” said Environment Canada.

The special weather statement is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Things are expected to warm up on Thursday and Friday as highs will reach 8℃ and 7℃, respectively.

“After the passage of the warm front Thursday, temperatures will climb to near breaking record values across much of the province with highs of 5 and 10 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, rainfall amounts will be light Thursday,” said Environment Canada.

But the mild weather will be replaced by freezing temperatures for the weekend and much of next week.
