Robert Bateman is a famous Canadian artist – and he’s selling a piece of history.

The painter’s cottage in Carnarvon, ON is currently on the market for $520,000. And for nature lovers, it looks like it could be worth every penny.

Located about 5 hours and 30 minutes hours from Montreal, the 4-bedroom log cabin is, according to its listing, “surrounded by serene wilderness and gorgeous waterfalls.” Not a bad place for a celebrated painter and naturalist to spend his time.

Purchased in the early 1980s, Bateman and his family built the cabin in 1983, and the artist spent time painting at nearby waterfalls, cutting trails through the woods, and imagining future works he could paint from the landscape.

Bateman and his family moved to Salt Spring Island, BC in the early 80s as well but have continued to visit the cottage regularly over the past 30 years.

In fact, Bateman found the land for sale when he was painting Dipper By The Waterfall and saw a trail that he then followed through the bush until he came across a beaver pond, beautiful cliffs, and a for sale sign. He wrote down the number and made an offer.

He has since called the cabin a location that’s “the deepest in my heart.”

And for half a million, it could soon be pretty close to your heart too.
