Canadians are known for being polite – and this athlete exemplified that sentiment perfectly on the Olympic stage.

Richmond, BC resident Evan Dunfee is an Olympic race walker, who broke the Canadian record for 50 km Race Walk at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where he finished in 4th place. In an odd series of events, Dunfee was briefly upgraded to 3rd place, before accepting his 4th place results, leaving him without a medal, but with the title of “quintessential Canadian.”

This fall, Dunfee is using his endurance and race walking skills to raise money for KidSport BC – a not-for-profit organization that helps more kids get involved in team sports. Dunfee committed to walking 25 km every day for 25 days, as well as speaking at 25 schools about the importance of physical activity and sports.

Find out how he won and lost his bronze medal in Rio, what he loves most about the local athletic community, and how you can help more kids get into sports.
