Two Calgary murder suspects arrested in Montreal

Two men have been arrested in Montreal for the shooting death of a man in Calgary over the weekend.

At approximately 3:30 am on Saturday, October 28, Calgary Police Service (CPS) were called to an apartment building in the of 3400 block of 31A Avenue S.E. Upon arrival, they found a deceased male in his 20s. A black Dodge truck was seen fleeing the site.

The murder victim was later identified as 23-year-old Mvemba Eriq Afonso, also known as Eriq Afonso Mvemba, of Calgary. The initial motive for the shooting is believed to be the robbery of drugs and money from the residence where Afonso was killed.

On Tuesday, October 31,  Surete du Quebec alerted CPS that they had pulled over a black Dodge truck, believed to be connected to the investigation.

Mourad Gasmi, 21, and Shannoh Jabet, 22, of Calgary, have been arrested on Canada-wide warrants‎ for second-degree murder and are in custody in Montreal.

Both men will be taken back to Calgary where a court date will be set.
