Amazon Canada has announced it is launching a new monthly Prime Membership Plan.

Priced at $7.99, the company said the new monthly option “offers Prime members in Canada an alternative” to the existing annual membership, which is $79.

“Prime brings together the best of entertainment and shopping into a simple package at an unbelievable value for Canadians,” said Mike Strauch, country manager for Amazon Canada. “With the launch of a monthly membership, we have added yet another easy way to enjoy Prime benefits.”

Since launching in January 2013 as an annual membership program for $79, Prime has continued to expand in Canada with more benefits and services.

Earlier this year, the company announced it would be taking over the redevelopment project of the old Canada Post building in downtown Vancouver for use as another office building to house its growing workforce in the city.

The rate of sign-ups has also expanded in Canada, with the number of Prime members doubling in the last 18 months.

Today, Prime in Canada includes benefits such as unlimited access to movies and TV shows with Prime Video, access to over one million songs on Prime Music, unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos and Twitch Prime.

Eligible customers can begin to experience the many benefits of Prime by starting a 30-day free trial and selecting the membership of their choice at amazon.ca/prime.
