Spotted on Reddit: Big building on a barge towed in Vancouver harbour
No, it’s not the McBarge.
A photo posted onto Reddit today appears to show a large multi-storey building being towed on a barge by tugboats in Burrard Inlet near Coal Harbour.
Daily Hive was unable to independently determine the exact use and final destination of the building before the end of the day, but redditors commented that it is a fishing lodge bound for northern coastal BC.

That’s right, while BC may be best known for its giant ski resorts, there are also numerous small fishing resorts scattered across the coast that provide accommodations, meals, and other services for fishing expeditions, which accounts for a good portion of the province’s coastal tourism.
The buildings for such getaways are often prefabricated off-site and then shipped to the remote location.

As for what’s happening to the famous McBarge, the floating McDonald’s restaurant from Expo ’86, there is a proposal to restore and convert the barge structure into a deep ocean discovery centre.
