Slide the City North Vancouver returns for 2 days this summer

After being met with huge success again last summer, Slide The City is once again returning to North Vancouver for two days this summer.

Organizers announced that the traveling 1,000-foot-long slip-and-slide will be returning to Lower Lonsdale on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, from 10 am to 6 pm.

This will be be Slide The City’s fourth annual event in Metro Vancouver.

The first event in 2015 was a one-day event that attracted 6,000 participants, making it the Utah-based company’s biggest single-day for attendance. The second year was expanded into a two-day event to accommodate the high local interest in the slide.

Using inner tubes, sliders go down the hill along a four-block-long stretch of Lonsdale Avenue from Victoria Park to 4th Street, where there is a large finish line splash pool.

Thousands of others will also be along the sidelines and at the finish line to watch sliders go down the roadway at speeds of up to 15 km/h.

Parking for the event will be limited, so biking, walking, or transit is encouraged.

Other attractions for the weekend include food trucks and music around Lower Lonsdale.

On Saturday, July 21, North Vancouver’s free concert series, Summer Sessions, will be extending their hours from 5 to 10 pm at The Shipyards, where you can take in live music from Coco Jafro, a beverage garden, food trucks, and other vendors.

For those sliding, North Shore Neighbourhood House will offer a bag check, change rooms, and free shuttle to and from Victoria Park.

Tickets for Slide the City start at $20 and this year and go on sale beginning May 1 with early bird pricing offered for the month of May.
