This outrageous throwback brunch is a must-try in Vancouver

There are brunches that you plan to fuel your weekend errands, and then there are brunches that you hit to put you in a food coma and soak up your hangover.

The one you’re about to read about is definitely the latter – but what would you expect from the newly-reopened and infamously alternative Rumpus Room?

Known for their come-as-you-are atmosphere, a plethora of throwback board games, and drool-worthy comfort food, Rumpus Room has brought back their brunch from previous years but upped the ante with some new additions and slight tweaks on old favourites from their OG location (2689 Main Street) which shuttered in 2014.

Made with thoughtfully-picked ingredients from local makers and purveyors, this menu was crafted to be approachable and fun, but the Rumpus team still maintains quality control and only sources the best of the best.

Most main dishes will run you about $15 – but you get a ton of food – while smaller share plates like the nostalgic Ants on a Log, Double Toasty (sweet and savoury toast), Sesame Ginger Fries, and Lil Cornies (corn dogs) are all under $10.

Whether you’re after the meaty Chicken and Waffles, the Breakfast Poutine, or the Green Eggs and Ham (prosciutto, two poached eggs, pesto hollandaise), or a plant-forward Vegan Skillet with tofu and the Beet and Kale Benny, there’s something on this menu for every dietary need and preference.

Sides available here include hashbrowns, fries, veggie chilli, kale, cabbage & pumpkin seed slaw, and house spring salad. You can also sub two waffles as your side for just $2 more.

If you want to take things over the top (which most adventurous brunchers do), there are a few must-try dishes on this menu.

The Fat Elvis is exactly what it sounds like: grilled peanut butter, bacon, and banana sammy topped with Frosted Flakes, and it’s outrageously good. We’d recommend you get this to split with a homie so you don’t pass out of flavour overload, but we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t feel like sharing either.

To continue and cap off the fun packed-with-colour theme evident in many whimsical dishes on this brunch menu, Rumpus Room has cooked up this adorable one-of-a-kind sweet treat.

Aptly named Bears Tubing, this dish offers fruity gummy bears riding the lazy river in housemade mini doughnuts.
