Justin Trudeau joins thousands to walk in Vancouver Pride Parade for second time as Prime Minister (VIDEOS)

On Sunday afternoon, thousands of people lined the streets of downtown to take in the annual Vancouver Pride Parade, and this year they had a special guest walking among the floats and dancers.

It was Justin Trudeau’s fifth time taking part in the event, and second time as Prime Minister. He made history in 2016, becoming the first sitting PM to do so.

Along with Ministers Harjit Sajjan, Chrystia Freeland, and Jody Wilson-Raybould, and MPs Terry Beech, Randy Boissonnault, Ron McKinnon, and Joe Peschisolido, Trudeau walked the entire 20-block route through Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood, stopping several times along the way to interact with the crowd.

“Great to be back at Vancouver Pride, really excited to be here. It’s really important to march in Pride,” Trudeau said to reporters before the parade.

“We know that far too many homeless youth are from the LGBT community. We know that rates of teenage suicide within the LGBT community is four times as much as other communities and eight times as much when the kids don’t have supportive parents. So there’s a lot of work we need to do as communities to come together to support the LGBT community.”

“We’ve done a lot, there’s been a lot of progress made over the past few years but there’s still lots more to do, and I’m glad to be here to march here in Vancouver.”
