Food, sex and TV are what Canadians really want after getting high

Some surveys are used to conduct valuable research, others to gain data that could be used to help companies sell products, and others just seem to confirm what everyone already suspected all along. The latter certainly seems to be the case when it comes to what Canadians find the most enjoyable after using cannabis.

A recent survey of Canadians conducted for National Access Cannabis (NAC) — the operator of Meta Cannabis and NewLeaf — shows that eating is the most enjoyable activity after consuming cannabis, followed by sex, and watching TV or movies, in that order.

The National Access Cannabis Index, asked 1,525 Canadians the question: “Which of the following activities are enjoyable after consuming cannabis?”

While a whopping 43.9% of respondents said they’d be down for any of these activities after smoking the devil’s lettuce, eating ranked as number one among the specific options — surprise!

Overall, 28% prefer to indulge in the munchies over having sex, watching a TV or Movie, nature experiences (star gazing, hiking, skiing), meditation or yoga, reading, or artistic experiences/activities (concerts, art galleries, live theatre).

This may be because the hunger that comes after using cannabis is directly related to the effects of THC on the brain, a phenomenon observed in humans and animals alike. The exact nature of the cause is not clear, but alas, research continues.

Nationally sex came in second with 17.5%, followed by watching TV or a movie at a very close 17%. However, both the Maritimes and Alberta said they’d prefer watching something to getting jiggy.

Coming in fourth for Canadian potheads was experiencing nature (13.4%), followed by artistic experiences (12.4%), meditation or yoga (8.6%), giving or receiving a massage (6.1%), and reading (4.1%).

As well, younger Canadians (18-34 vs 35 and older) and men (vs women) are more likely to say each of the above-listed activities are enjoyable after consuming cannabis.
