Driver dies after vehicle collides with bus in Burnaby

An elderly man is dead after the vehicle he was driving collided with a transit bus in Burnaby on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the incident took place at 4 pm, as the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Hastings Street, near the intersection of Holdom Avenue.

The 81-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken from the scene in critical condition and later died in hospital.

One bus passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment, while others were assessed at the scene by Burnaby Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services.

While the cause of the collision is still under investigation, police said it appears that the driver may have suffered a medical incident prior to colliding with the bus.

Now, Burnaby RCMP is asking anyone who witnessed this collision or may have any dashcam video of the crash to contact police at 604-646-9999.
