Old Victoria Park property turned into 'UP' house for Beakerhead (PHOTOS)

Anyone walking by Victoria Park over the next few days may just have to do a double-take at that old yellow house.

That’s because the house has become a part of a Beakerhead installation called Dreams Never Die, which was created as a nod to the story of a house in the middle of a developed urban area in the 2009 movie UP.

In the movie, the old man living in the house takes off into the air (along with his entire two-storey home) with the help of thousands of balloons attached to his roof.

While the Victoria Park house doesn’t look to be floating away any time soon, the colourful balloons adorning one outer wall of the building make for an amazing sight.

The installation was created by artist Maria Galura by using hundreds of biodegradable balloons.

The entire enterprise was made possible by the Calgary Foundation for Community, the Beakerhead Art & Technology Apprenticeship Program, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation, and William Engineering.

The balloon wall will be up  — and extremely picturesque, we might add — until September 23, and some Calgarians have already jumped at the photo opportunity.

Here are a few shots of what the installation looks like, though we definitely suggest checking it (and all the other Beakerhead events and installations) out in person!
