The World Partnership Walk (WPW) is a global fundraising walk which comes to Calgary on Sunday, June 5 at Prince’s Island Park. The Walk is held annually to increase awareness and raise funds to help fight global poverty.

This year marks the WPW’s 37th year in Canada and has raised $90 million. The Walk will be held in 10 cities across the country including Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta.

The Aga Khan Foundation Canada’s (AKFC) World Partnership Walk, is the largest fundraising event held in Canada who’s aim is to support international development and break down barriers causing poverty. The AKFC is a non-profit international development agency, working in Asia and Africa, improving access to quality education and health care.

Last year the walk raised over $7 million nationally to fight global poverty and 100% of the donations went directly to support programs run by the AKFC. In the past 25 years, the walk has helped 1 billion people overcome poverty. Canada’s support has been beneficial to improving the quality of life for those living in impoverished countries and to fight global poverty.

Enjoy a fun filled day at Prince’s Island Park with activities commencing at 11 a.m. There will be food vendors, an exhibition featuring The Together Truck and onsite donation tents. Starting at 11:30 a.m., participants will begin the 5 kilometer walk around the park.

To help donate to the World Partnership Walk you can sign up online at www.worldpartnershipwalk.com as an individual fundraiser or as part of a team.
