If you want to relax in the sand and tan while having a cool place to take a dip, Sikome lake is just the place. This inner city, man-made lake is perfect for friends and families.

It’s a great way to spend the day at the beach without even leaving the city. They have a concession for snacks and a playground for kids. This year they are charging a small fee for entrance. It is $5 per person or $10 for a family. The cost helps to cover maintenance of the lake to keep it the coolest place in the city.

Here’s a tip, if you are with your friends the side of the lake without the park usually has fewer small people.

  • Location: The Sikome aquatic facility can be accessed by Bow Bottom Trail SE or Sun Valley Boulevard SE off Highway 22x.
  • Hours: 10 am to 7:30 pm

Canoeing

Want to relax and enjoy some epic scenery? Go down to Calgary Canoe Club, Glenmore Reservoir, or Sports Rent and rent a canoe for the afternoon. You can paddle out to the middle of the Glenmore Reservoir or the Bow River. Bring the oars aboard and let the water rock you into relaxation with the sun beaming down. Don’t forget to pack a paper bag lunch and take some water!

Sandy Beach

Sandy beach is a very popular area in the summer for BBQs and floating on the Elbow River. The river is usually low and calm here, so it makes for the perfect place to chill out in the sun, but stay cool on the water.

Grab your team and head to Crescent Heights High School’s  football field to toss pigskin around, or play a game. This field overlooks the city skyline, so it’s the perfect place to live out that surreal summer day. Not to mention, it’s a great way to get out and get active.

With seven outdoor pools to choose from, Calgary has you covered regardless of where you are in the city. The best part? It’s cheap! Only $7 if you want to swim and only $3.50 if you just want to tan. That’s not bad for a full day of fun in the sun!

See website for various locations and hours.

Regardless of what you’re into, Calgary is filled with parks, patios, and bodies of water to keep your summer lovely and cool!
