Unmarked CPS truck backed into a 69-year-old pedestrian on Tuesday

A 69-year-old man was struck and injured by a truck in downtown Calgary on Tuesday.

The truck, a 2009 GMC Sierra, had been an unmarked Calgary Police Service vehicle driven by an on-duty officer, according to a release from CPS.

The driver had been attempting to reposition the vehicle near the intersection of 2nd Street and 9th Avenue SW when he accidentally backed into the pedestrian, who had been crossing the road diagonally just after 1 pm.

The release states that the man received “serious chest and pelvis injuries” as a result of the collision. The male driver was uninjured.

CPS does not consider speed, alcohol, or drugs to be factors in the incident, and the Director of Law Enforcement has been notified of the collision.
